【 Volcanic Hydrothermal system 】
Magma exists underground in an active volcano and releases volatile constituents of H2O,CO2,SO2,H2S,HCl,H2,N2 and rare gases. This phenomenon is called Degassing of magma. When the concentration of volatile exceeded the solubility in magma, a bubble occurs and the magma is lifted. Lava rises to the surface of the earth and flows. This is a magma eruption. In volcanic structures, volatile constituents may stop magma at an underground level when the rate of the Degassing of magmas is small. The volatile in magma may also rise to the surface as a volcanic gas, hot spring water and crater lake water finally. An aisle to the surface of the earth is called a volcanic hydrothermal system. Groundwater mixing and a subsequent vapor-liquid separation occurred within volcanic hydrothermal system, and the chemical and isotopic composition of fumarolic gas, hot spring water and crater lake water is differentiated from the original volatile emitted at the degassing magma. Our principal interest is mechanism of this volcanic hydrothermal basin system. When this study is something perfect, they become able to know the state of the magma by analyzing the volcanic gas at the surface. For example CO2 is important, because it tends to get away from a magma in particular in the volatile constituent. So it can be predicted whether a magma still includes volatile constituent much by knowing CO2 concentration in volcanic gas. This leads to an eruptive forecast.

【Volcanic particle 】
A particle of the micron unit occurs from hot volcanic gas. Constitution consists of sulfuric acid mainly. A volcanic particle occurs much from the volcanic gas which includes SO2 in Miyakejima and Sakurajima with high concentration. There is a possibility that a health hazard and building damage cause for this particle.

Atmosphere of Laboratory

The atmosphere of laboratory in Ookayama is quiet and quiet. The atmosphere of the laboratory in Kusatsu Shirane Kazankansokujo is much active relative to Ookayama. The usual pattern of student's life is, the sampling and analysis at Kusatsu-Shirane observatory and the following interpretation at Ookayama lab. We welcome the visits of students who are interested in the geochemical study of volcano, at Ookayam Lab and also Kusatsu-Shirane volcano obs.

The master students in our are not worried for taking job after the acquisition of Ms degree. All of them had taken a position in big and established companies. If you get the PhD in our lab, you have a chance to get an academic position. Our volcanological community keeps enough number of Post doc position. The posiibility you get Post doc position is certainly high relative to other field of basic natural science.
